What is glutathione?

Flu season is arriving.  Some foods MAY contain a natural defense against flu, as well as other nasties.

A study has been underway at Emory University about using this naturally occurring compound to combat flu and colds.  Does it work when you eat foods rich in this compound?  Maybe.  Studies are still underway.  See the report at ...Anti-Oxidant Glutathione Could Help Prevent Flu Infections.

The more natural antioxidants you can get in your foods, the more likely you are to maintain good health.  As listed in a Whole Foods, Inc. article, "Several foods contain naturally occurring glutathione, including avocado, watermelon, asparagus, grapefruit, potato, acorn squash, strawberries, orange, tomato, cantaloupe, broccoli, okra, peach,  zucchini, and spinach.", all goodies that the Sneaky has been recommending that you gobble up every chance you get!

In addition, this article says that the phytochemical limonene may increase the benefits of glutathione.  Limonene is found in citrus fruit peels, cherries, green foods (celery, fennel), soy products, and wheat.

Mother Nature knew what she was doing when she provided the rich bounty of foods to boost our health - and therefore our zest for living.  If you are so fortunate as to have ample access to these foods, eat up!

By the way, pigging out on the above items does not mean that you should refuse to take a flu shot if your doctor recommends it for you.  It does mean that overall, you'll be healthier.

What are your thoughts?
