Instant Hot Chocolate or Hot Cocoa is a nutritious treat that warms the bones in cold weather.  But it's sometimes a pain to make.  One can buy mixes, but in addition to cost, you don't know what's in them or they may not use the ingredients you approve of.  This recipe is GOOD for you.  In addition to real, nutritious cocoa, you can substitute the sugar for other dry sweeteners, and the spices are not only delicious, they are healthful.

Spiced Hot Chocolate Mix

2 Cups dry non-fat milk, or 1 16 oz. box
2/3 Cup cocoa powder
1 Cup sugar or equivalent of dry sugar substitute (I use xylitol)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. dried ginger

Combine ingredients in a food processor and pulse until completely fine and combined. (if you don't have a good processor, use a blender or sifter.)  Store in a tightly sealed container in a cool place.

To use, add to heaping tablespoons to a cup of very hot water and stir.   Stir from time to time while drinking to avoid having the ingredients settle.

As a treat, add a few miniature marshmallows or a dollop of whipped topping.

If you MUST have it creamier, add a tablespoon of coffee creamer, but it's not good for you! web tool
