I firmly believe that good eating habits in children go way back to their first solid foods. With the birth of my first child....a LONG time ago, as was the custom then, the doctor had me start her on solids at about 6 weeks of age....YES, 6 WEEKS... not months! It was of all things orange juice which would never been suggested today.
I have started each infant on solid foods as early as possible and while they might not gain much nutrition from those first couple months of applesauce and rice cereal, they did learn to eat. I have never had a problem with my children eating fruits and veggies! I am now raising children that are NOT my biological children, so I don't think genes have anything to do with it. I think it is attitude when they are quite young. Don't know if this will help at all...

I'm with you on that one. In my opinion, children are as likely to be allergic to milk and baby wheat cereal as to other foods, and an experienced mother can soon tell if their digestion isn't up to some food. I fed my children very little commercial "baby food"; they ate largely what we ate from just a few weeks of age; finely pureed potatoes, carrots, squash, yams or other soft veggies, mixed with a little milk, bottled applesauce, scraped raw apples and bananas....
My son was insatiable. If I brought him to the table from six weeks of age on, he grabbed at my plate. One of his favorite treats, while we ate, was to suck on the end of a pork chop or ham bone. My kids ate virtually everything when they were older (still do) with great gusto.

There were actually three things that made my decision to breastfeed. The first (and, as bad as it may sound to some people, the biggest part of the decision) was the cost. I just don't see any good reason to buy a substitute made by man when God gives me the original for free.
The second reason was my husband's family history of allergies. I don't want our son to have to go through what he does every allergy season, and once I heard that breastfeeding decreased the odds that he will have to endure allergies, it hardened me in my decision to breastfeed. Finally, in the hospital after he was born, the nurses patiently helped me through the first few days, even though my son seemed determined not to breastfeed. They were patient and never pushed too hard to get him to take a bottle (although they were offering every chance they got). I have now been successfully nursing my son for 9 weeks now, and have no plans on quitting until he's ready.

Breast Feeding
Please forward this on to as many as you can, save
our children's health...and family wealth (well-being)
(might want to save this, pass it on to your children)
A not necessarily well-prepared student sat in his life science classroom, staring at a question on the final exam paper. The question directed: "Give four advantages of breast milk."
What to write? He sighed, and began to scribble whatever came into his head, hoping for the best:
1. No need to boil.
2. Never goes sour.
3. Available whenever necessary.
So far so good - maybe. But the exam demanded a fourth answer. Again, what to write? Once more, he sighed. He frowned. He scowled, then sighed again. Suddenly, he brightened. He grabbed his pen, and triumphantly, he scribbled his definitive answer:
4. Available in attractive containers of varying sizes. He received an A.
FYI:
MLH Joseph,
My mom was always well endowed, but never breast fed her 9 (tried...but...), had excuses...but thanks to your wisdom My Loving Husband, my eyes were opened to facts I never would have learned (to appreciate) and our sons would never have had the healthy advantages, plus the money we saved, and plus the weight I lost so quickly from it (in one month-back to normal size!) If I never thanked you before, this is my THANK YOU for your wisdom when I needed it the most (when I didn't have much then at 20) when you were 33. And I look forward to our 30th wedding anniversary! None of my mom's children were very close to her, there was always an unknown coldness, to this day. I wonder?
YLW ; )
Here is (((MY))) four (18) answers to the test:
The natural GOD-GIVEN antibiotics in breast milk protecting the child.
No question about it, It's exactly what the infant needs, ALL the nourishment built in, doctors and scientists will never be able to copy what God does! ("no need to boil"? gee, I wonder why? no FOREIGN matter is in this milk...get it?)
Benefits the mother too, she looses the weight quickest, safest, and naturally during breast-feeding her infant! It's God's way of thanking you for the time and trouble to bring forth another soul FOR HIM!
The $$$ you save on milk, bottles, storage, dish soap, electricity for heating, washing, and refrigeration, diet pills, etc.
Oh, of course there's the flat chested woman who always wondered what it would be like to have big boobs, this is their chance! (and the longer they nurse, the longer they have it! LOL!
And the convenience! what a pleasure!
Not to mention you men out there...this virtually guarantees that the mother will always be near your infant to usher in a secure, warm, mentally healthy, spiritually happy baby!
The best deterrent to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)
Baby sleeps better! (more content)
The changing of diapers is almost odor free!!!
Baby unlikely gets constipated and uncomfortable or even allergic to what he consumes (which saves $$$ too in doctor bills!)
This nipple never hits the dirty floor, nor has an occasional lick from any filthy animal in the environment.
The mother always knows where this container of milk is!!! (quicker to a crying baby's mouth)
The temperature is always perfect! Never have to worry about burning the baby's mouth/tongue! (less crying)
No air bubbles in baby's tummy (less crying/burping)
There is no "out dated" labels to be cautious of, and no waste of this product.
Husbands don't have to make runs to the store for milk/"formula", and no special stops to make, no hold ups when traveling.
To whom this may concern...
June 7, 1977, St. Vincent's Hospital, Toledo, Ohio.
After the delivery of my first child, they wheeled me into a room to share with a young girl about my age who fully intended to bottle feed. As I went to feed my baby, she made an ugly, negative comment to me, that is when she proudly proclaimed that she bottle feeds hers. I was already uncomfortable at this whole new thing that I was learning in life, but to share this precious moment with a witch...I prayed to our creator, "Am I doing the right thing Lord? I believe I am, help me here..." Then I remember the nurse bringing in her bottle to feed her infant, running her through a mini course as to how to hold, bottle feed, and care for the bottles, etc. The nurse leaves the room, and I watched her put the rubber in her child's mouth... that is when I noticed an unusual sparkle along side the glass bottle, I then identified it as a crack in the bottle and informed her of it, she looked in disbelief as if I was getting even with her and then she double took a look. I know she had to be embarrassed and learned something, but I ignored her the rest of the time I was there (four days). To each, his own!
I nursed until they showed signs of biting, THAT told me they wanted meat! (4 months!). Our 2 sons: a Policeman, and the other, soon-to-be a Fireman.
Moral of the story?
"God will take care of those who do not eliminate Him from their lives."
Remember, He said He recompenses! (don't ever forget this) some folks say, "What goes around, comes around!"
The Bible (1 John 4: 16) says: "God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him."
